Exercise Science Inc , which is powered by JP Verdisco Exercise Health and Fitness Inc , is the only Clinical Exercise Physiology Center open to the public in New York State. Located within Selden and Garden City, we are one of a kind in that there are no other services that can compare to our expertise in the practice of exercise physiology, orthopedic rehabilitation, sports medicine, the prevention or control of clinical disease, weight management, sport science, general health and fitness.

I worked with JP back in 2016-2019. I’ve always been in to my health, mentally spiritually and physically . I again in 2023 reconnected ( I moved out of state ) with to help get me back into the bets shape of my life.He is not a fitness trainer or nutritionist, the dude is a freaking scientist with your body . I was having some trouble w knee soreness and body aching while playing hockey (a hobby of mine for 30 years). Contemplating retirement from something i loved , i was referred to JP VERDISCO by a close friend of mine. I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I frequently visit the gym , so i wasn’t sure what he could show me .I was blown away how jp and his staff could take some cardiovascular vo2 max testing and transformed my heavy out of shape breathingit into meaningful data! I have went to Exercise Science a few different times over the last 8 years. I started going in my mid-twenties as an athlete to test my VO2Max and strength train several times a week with James Verdisco which was an awesome experience and produced my best physique and strength gains under exercise and nutritional guidance.More recently in 2023, in my mid-30s I had low back and hip tightness due to sitting too much and not being active and mobile. The team at Exercise Science evaluated me and after a 6 month program going 2 times a week, I am 100% pain free, able to perform movements that were painful before and can finally get back to a normal life that includes golfing and other activities that I could not do before enrolling in the program here.I have recommended family and friends to Exercise Science because they really do prescribe unique exercise programs to each individual based on what your goals are or your injuries may be.The exercise programs that I participated in over the last 6 months seriously changed my life as I am 100% pain free again now, and haven’t been for YEARS.

I was Jame’s last appointment of the day and he was thorough, present, focused, and unrushed. He took his time to do an evaluation, explain everything and answer my questions. He and his fabulous staff have tremendously helped my parents. Having worked in the same industry it is clear he really knows his stuff inside and out!UPDATE: July 2023 – I just had a massage from Petrina here. After hearing my parents and brothers rave about the experience, I had to give it a try. Well, we accomplished so much in one session. I injured my groin in May 2022 and was looking for a physical therapist. I could barely walk and definitely couldn’t do a light jog without excruciating pain. I found a PT through my insurance and went there until September but my groin never got better. His practices were actually making my groin worse and he said there was nothing else he can do and I had to get shots by a doctor. I thought that was ridiculous so I told my Masseuse and she told me about her friend who went to James Verdisco Exercise Science and he creates a plan specifically to treat your injuries. I made an appointment for an initial evaluation with him and he told me all that was wrong with my groun and we set up individual PT 2x/week. I was skeptical at first because of my last experience but trusted the process and expertise of James and his staff, Mike, Jack, Ernesto, and Benna. Really nice people who care and work hard to help you recover. My groin is finally better and I owe it all to them. I have resumed sports and I’m not scared that I will tweak my groin anymore. If you are looking for physical therapy, look no further! James and his team will take great care of you!

I first came to JP Verdisco in 2014 after having open heart surgery at 41 to replace an aortic valve. I had always been into fitness and was frustrated at not being able to lift or run at the levels I had prior to surgery. James knew exactly how hard he could safely push me and that allowed me the confidence to push myself. In just over a year he had my strength nearly back to where it had been and I was able to run my first half marathon. I recently had to have another surgery and can think of no one I would trust more with helping me through my rehabilitation.

I cannot speak highly enough about Exercise Science and the incredible team led by James Verdisco. This physiologist office is the real deal, and the expertise and care provided by James and his team are unmatched.I started working out at Exercise Science about 6 months ago when I was feeling at my lowest point in my health journey and in need of a personal trainer – or so I thought. Despite being young at 34, I had a lot of health challenges that had been holding me back. Thankfully, I found James who gave me an initial evaluation and came up with a plan of action I really needed. Not personal training, not physical therapy, but used real science to come up with a plan to get me out of the hole I’ve dug myself into.In just 6 short months, I have seen incredible improvements in my strength and overall well-being. Working with Ernesto, the office manager, and the rest of the team twice a week has been an absolute pleasure. Their wealth of knowledge and expertise is truly impressive.One of my favorite parts of working out at Exercise Science is the body stretch that comes at the end of every session. Unlike other places that use fake marketing terms like being “stretchologists”, the physiologists at Exercise Science are the real deal. They know exactly how every muscle and strand in your body operates, and work with the muscle structure around them for optimal results.Recently, I have also booked a few sessions with the in-house medical massage therapist and acupuncturist, and I have been blown away by the quality of care provided. In July of 2021 I finally went back the gym after a 16 month Covid hiatus and decided I was going to start doing some running with the goal of being able to run the Michael Murphy 5k in 2022. Well about 3 weeks into my running & weight training routine I came home from the gym one day and had some severe tightening in my lower back. After it didn’t go away within a few days I decided to go to a chiropractor for an adjustment. It seemed to relieve the pain a some but any routine motion brought the pain level up so I decided to visit a physical therapist. After doing a consultation visit they recommended a 3 visits per week for 3 months. During this 3 month period my back pain did come down substantially but any long periods of standing or walking or lifting brought the tightness back to pretty high level. Better than the initial pain but still not right.This continued until a very faithful day in July of 2022 when James Verdisco was over my house with his family for a kid’s play date. During his visit we he started explaining to me what his profession actually is. I had heard him use the term physiotherapy before but never connected the dots. Well, that day would change my life with back pain completely. While sitting at my kitchen table explaining my back situation James asked me to go through a few different movements, sit in certain positions and explain what I felt. He immediately told me that he had a very good idea what my issue was and asked me to set up a consultation.At the consultation a few days later his suspicion was confirmed and recommended a 6 month treatment plan which he said would rid me of pain for good. Obviously, I was a bit skeptical but I figured i had nothing to lose so I started a two times a week treatment. I can only explain the sessions as a combination of having a workout assisted by a personal trainer who is guiding you through workouts to make sure your form is perfect and the right muscles are being triggered but also an incredible stretching session which leaves me ready to tackle the day.I just completed my 6 months and the improvement is drastic. Other than a tiny bit of tightness when I over exert myself which is probably pretty common I am pain free. James assures me that as long as I maintain the gains I have made by continuing the routines we have done the back pain will stay away and all though I was cleared to start group classes at his facility in Selden, I enjoy the one on one training & stretching sessions so much I just signed up for another 12 weeks!I can’t recommend James Verdisco enough!!!

I’m 74 years old and have had some challenges with leg strength, and as a result, walking and standing. I’ve been in and out of physical therapy a bunch of times with no meaningful results.In just three months at JP Verdisco there has been encouraging progress. My legs are stronger and my walking is noticeably improved. For the first time in over 10 years I’m hopeful that I can continue to enjoy significant improvements by staying with it. A HUGE added benefit is that my body is more energized and my spirits have been lifted.Without a doubt, James Verdisco is not only extremely knowledgeable about the mechanics of the body, he is also able to translate that knowledge into a very effective treatment program that targets exactly what I need. Every person on his team that works with me is a highly trained specialist that is truly concerned about my continued improvement. They are very kind people who are quite enjoyable to work with.If you have any physical issues and can’t seem to get the answers you need or the therapy to help you, I encourage you to book an evaluation and decide from there. I think what says it all is that I renewed my membership for the 5th straight year. I’m in my late 50s, was never athletic and I’m the strongest I’ve ever been. James has a wonderful and knowledgeable staff that have helped me deal with knee problems, shoulder tightness due to stress, and have helped me exercise without injuring myself. I love the friendliness, and after 5 years, the homey feel of the place. The schedule is strict, you have appointments to work with an exercise physiologist at a specific time, but that is the best feature- you don’t skip, someone is waiting for you. I’ve paid gym memberships for years and always ended up dropping out. Not this time! I’ll keep coming until I confined to a bed.

I started my exercise journey end of January 2022 with another trainer mostly using Cybex machines. I did make progress but I was constantly in pain because the trainer did not listen and modify my workout routine. I happened to see the sign for JP Verdisco in Selden. I looked online and saw the great reviews and since there was a promotion for the evaluation, I decided to give Exercise Science a try. I was in quite a bit of pain when I met James for the evaluation. I was impressed that he was able to pinpoint areas where my body was havingissues. Subsequently, I had x-rays done from one of my doctors and sure enough, James was 100% correct about my physical situation. James told me that all his workout plans are based on science and what works for each person, not just doing more and heavier reps on a machine.I signed up for the first month not knowing what to expect or if I was really going to get stronger. I’m in my upper 50’s and I’m an avid equestrian so I really needed to build my core and upper body strength without pain and injury. During my first workout, we did body weight exercises. I thought to myself, “How can this compare in getting me stronger like weight training?” I was skeptical. Well, let me tell you, I just finished my second month of training there (2 days per week) and I cannot believe the strength I’ve gained!!! I’m able to ride my horses more effectively. I have more stamina for life activities in general and I’m not in pain.James will create a workout plan based on your body and its individual needs to get you stronger. I have some physical asymmetry issues which were affecting my riding, my horse and my progress. In two months, I (and my horse) feel a big difference.The staff in Selden is excellent and very low-key. The trainers are kind, knowledgeable and supportive. They work under James’ guidance. They always ask if you are okay during the exercises to make sure you are not having pain. There are all ages of clients there with different physical needs working on getting stronger and better.Do yourself a favor and visit James for an evaluation and sign up for a 1-1 training session. You’ll be glad you did and your body will thank you. Highly recommended!!!

Even though my girlfriend highly recommended Exercise Science, I was hesitant to join.After my evaluation with James, who is definitely an expert in his field, I decided to go for it.Initially, I only signed up for a 1 on 1 once a week as I wanted to meet my exercise physiologist and see for myself what the program actually entailed.I have osteoporosis and have done endless research on the type of exercises I need to do, the # of reps, the weight increases, etc. I was pleasantly surprised that this program was everything I needed and wanted. After working with Jack just once, I knew I made the right decision and hence signed up for twice a week.Jack is very knowledgeable, professional, kind and caring. He is constantly customizing my workout, keeping tabs on my form, and targeting all the key areas. I am extremely happy with Jack and the program.Lee has been great handling my make up classes and answering my questions.

I had a serious accident which shattered my femur and hip. I was hospitalized and in rehab for months. The injuries took several operations to put things back together, but I was left in great pain and unable to walk. Rehab and out-patient physical therapy stabilized my condition but did little esle. On top of those challenges, inacitivity and depression yielded significant weight gain. I was resigned to my condition..A physician I knew recommended James (J. P. Verdisco). He began working with me. Right away I noticed he had insights and observations that made a lot sense and that other healthcare givers didn’t seem to know. The excercises he set up had immediate and remarkable results. Things just got better from there. He also gave me strategies for nutrition and weightloss that worked..Before I began working with James I was “circling the drain” and doubt that I would be alive today. I continue to see James regularly and am happy and heathy. I may never regain full function, but I am able to work and get around independently. When you started with not being able to get up out of a wheelchair without assistance, being able to go up a flight of stairs is a major–and miraculous–achievement

I was referred to JP Verdisco by a friend of mine because I was complaining about knee pain. I was evaluated by James and he put together a program designed for me targeting my problem areas. The experienced Exercise Physiologist guided me throughout each exercise. And now I can honestly say that my knee pain is gone! I had a hockey related injury that happened a month ago. I had a hard time finding somewhere to go that wasn’t just urgent care. James helped me with steps to care for it in the meantime. After just describing what happened and what it felt like, he told me it was most likely a shoulder separation and I needed to get x-rays and MRI to find out the exact damage. He was correct! After I finally got in for x-rays and they scheduled an MRI, they scheduled a follow up two weeks after that instead of right away which I thought was silly. They thought it was a level 1 shoulder separation. When I got my MRI results and it ended up being a level 3 shoulder separation and torn Labrum, I wanted to know how to proceed. My “Google doctorate” told me conflicting things so I tried to move my meeting with the orthopedic doc up, and the office refused and were unwilling to answer questions I had. The doctor there ended up being awesome, the other staff just weren’t very helpful. Anyways, I contacted James again after the MRI results for more help. When I showed him the results he was very knowledgeable about the injury and answering my questions thoroughly of what I needed to do and not do for the next two weeks. The orthopedic was happy someone so knowledgeable could help answer my questions and ease my panic. I am out of my sling and still healing up, but very thankful for the help James provided!

The facility was highly recommended by family and friends who have been going there for years for various health issues. After 8 months, I feel stronger, healthier and in better physical health overall! The sessions are targeted, individualized, and evolve with progress and needs.When a separate neck issue and knee issue occurred, I sought James clinical expertise even though people suggested I get an MRI or another type scan. Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!!Not too long ago I came to James with back issues. I explained that my weight lose had come to a standstill and that I had a hard time every day cleaning the house, gardening and taking long walks. My balance was even off. I had been going to a chiropractor 2x a week. If I did gardening or I worked out in any way it was 3xs a week to the chiropractor. [I’m not saying anything bad about my chiropractor. I love him. He’s a great guy.]After evaluating me, James explained that my muscles were the issues and not the discs I had herniated. I was skeptical at first for I had a trainer in the past and always seemed to end up worse than when I started in a short time. I explained my goal was to be able to move and do everyday tasks. This was my last resort before seeking help from a surgeon.After a few weeks of training with Mario, I noticed that climbing stairs or kneeling was not that hard anymore. I had more energy and strength. I even weeded all my gardens and was not sore. I have had the opportunity to train with James, Ernesto, Jason and Mario. They are all really great. They make training fun and productive. I can honestly say I look forward to my workouts each week.Since I joined JP Verdisco, my husband has joined and even looks forward to his workouts each week. I see a difference in him and he does too. He has more energy. I cannot thank this facility enough! I highly recommend Exercise Science to ALL my friends and family whether they are looking for a personal trainer to get fit or to fix any physical issues/injuries. I was in a car accident a few years ago which left me with bad knees. I’ve seen a few orthopedics and tried physical therapy multiple times to correct the issues I have but nothing worked. During my initial assessment with James, he was able to find the underlying problems causing my pain that no other therapist even examined in the past. He created a personalized work out plan to correct the issues from the source that has helped me tremendously! During each session, I am 1:1 with a trainer (Ernesto and Casey are amazing) that make sure your entire body is in the correct position for each work out. The stretching at the end is my favorite part, I leave feeling like I just left the spa except I had an effective workout that personalized to my body. Thank you everyone at Exercise Science Inc!

I’ve been taking my mom to this place for several months now because she injured her shoulder that prevented her from lifting up her arm. I tried two other locations before arriving at James’ facility and we saw no results after many sessions of physical therapy. We were told that she needed surgery because she was diagnosed with frozen shoulder, but come to find out she was given the wrong diagnosis. We were able to avoid surgery all together and with the expertise of this facility we have seen drastic changes, and my mom now has a full range of motion within her arm. Not to mention, the staff is amazing. Everyone is so friendly and highly knowledgeable compared to any other location we’ve visited. We look forward to coming in every week and having the best conversations with James, who has an endless depth of knowledge. I would 10/10 recommend coming here if you or anyone else that you know has sustained an injury that requires physical therapy. They’ll get you up and moving within no time without the fear of returning to your previous state. All their efforts are greatly appreciated.

There were too many years of severe suffering with my upper extremities; and I am finally finding some relief and getting to the root of the problem. I came upon Verdisco after suffering from a torn meniscus. I tried PT for a few months and while they were great – I was looking for a program that treated my injury more holistically. I have belonged to gyms, done PT, had a personal trainer and nothing is better that the program at Verdisco. The exercise physiologists (specifically Jay) have a vast array of knowledge to treat not just your injury but to work all your muscle groups so that they can work together for your body to heal and to become stronger. They assess what you can do and build you up each week to do more and more than even you think your body can do. I cannot recommend this place more highly. The staff is professional, kind, courteous and they even make it fun! I realize that as I get older – this is a program that I need to make getting older not so bad.

I was told by my dietician that I needed a exercise physiologist and Verdisco was the only place that came up in this area. I needed this place particularly because I have a complicated medical history that needed to be addressed in order to properly exercise in a safe and productive environment. In the first 12 weeks I have been able to progress 2 levels in the cardiac and 2 levels in muscle strength. Given my medical history this is amazing. James is the owner and explains everything quite well. The trainers Rich, Jack and Ernesto are very patient and help you follow the plan that is designed for your particular needs. I highly recommend this place for your physical therapy and training needs.

The initial evaluation was thorough, informative, and reasonably priced. Several treatment options were offered, where you work one on one with a Physical Therapist on the prescribed treatment plan. I was re-evaluated after 12- weeks, my progress reassessed, and the treatment plan was updated. The 12 week results I’ve achieved are impressive and I couldn’t recommend a better PT office to help you achieve your health goals.

Since coming to the group I’ve learned a lot about proper form, getting better and faster at running, and having a good time. Everyone in the group is extremely knowledgeable, always polite , and fun. Any questions or concerns about your exercise program are answered so that you can accomplish what goal you’re hoping to obtain.

I had extensive spinal fusion a few years back for kyphosis and scoliosis. I’ve had physical therapy and personal trainers to help me get back in shape. No one compares to them! They are very knowledgeable and dedicated. In just 3 months time, I’ve gained muscle mass, and my posture has improved. These guys are amazing!

What can I say, I am strong like bull! I started working out with Jay because I brought my son to JPV and thought, “Why am I paying another gym when I’m here anyway.” 2 life-changing years later, I’ve never felt this good. No more neck and back issues, And James has mitigated enough of my shoulder pain (from 3 tears) and my carpal tunnel through hands on adjustments, so that I don’t need surgery. I barely remember I have these issues. My son has gained in socialization and become proud of his much-improved physique, and my daughter attributes the ease of this 3rd pregnancy to her training at JPV. I have known James Verdisco for about 15 years. He is extremely knowledgeable about exercise science and has taught me a lot. He truly cares about us, his patients, and goes above and beyond with us. I recently started back at the Selden facility after having The Gastric Sleeve done almost 3 months ago. I’m down 40 pounds since surgery and now plan on toning my muscle and burning more calories in the group sessions.James and his staff are terrific and I highly recommend them. JP starts with a thorough evaluation, followed by program that is supervised by an exercise physiologist. Great results, excercise targeted to my issues, very efficient use of my time. I plan to go weekly on an ongoing basis. Twice a week would be better for me but doesn’t work with my current schedule.

I’m really thankful for everyone at JP Verdisco. I arrived over a year ago with a hamstring injury and very little strength. I’m still getting stronger with the help of the team and I wouldn’t feel as good as I do now without them. Completing the exercises prescribed to me has helped me improve upon my strength so that I can enjoy my other fitness related hobbies safely. The physiologists have taken great care of me on days when I was not at my best (I had to recover from an appendectomy last year right after starting physio). When I came to JP Verdisco exercise I was in bad shape. My nephropathy had taken it’s toll. JP and his staff were so welcoming and kind. I go to group sessions and my strength has improved enormously allowing me to walk far distances and keep my balance. They have done wonders for me and they will do the same for you! Amazing, kind, knowledgeable staff! If you have acute or chronic pain and cannot get it fixed elsewhere, this is the place for you!! I have been working with James and his team for over a year and a half and I never thought I could get back into such good shape. I lost 30 pounds and went from a size 14 to a size 8.I was tired and out of shape. My back and neck and joints were hurting. There were days I came to James in so much pain, I had spasms that took my breath away…he helped me through these difficulties and helped me gain strength and feel better without drugs .I am continually improving my fitness and have amazed myself that at 68 ,I can have muscles and be toned and run around with my grandkids and keep up with them!I am probably more fit than when I was 20 years younger! Amazing facility! So glad I was recommended to JP Verdisco! James and his staff got my full range of motion back in my shoulder following labral repair surgery. Other professionals prior told me my limited range after months of physical therapy was “normal after a surgery like this.” JP Verdisco got me back to my active lifestyle with full range of motion and no pain! I am so thankful for them and would highly recommend to anyone!
